Recalling that she had a prior appointment back home, Aoife took her leave, returning to town to get her pay from Dimitri, then left town for home.
Determined to continue on, the remaining three entered the house trough the side door near the well. With Patrin in the lead, they passed down the hall, opening the doors as they passed, first the kitchen, then forward into the house, opening and giving each a quick look into before moving on.
Once each of the rooms, other than the scullery beyond the kitchen, was visually inspected, the first entered what looked like a study, inspecting the desk. After a bit of force, they managed to pull out the central drawer of the desk, and found some common paper’s receipts and such. Examining the desk closer discovered a hidden compartment and the central drawer that held a potion of neutralize poison, highly concentrated, holding two doses.
Across the study, they entered the library, which contained 14 somewhat worse to wear books in a pile. Of the 14 books, 11 were of rather mundane studies, histories, collections of romantic poems and so forth. The remaining three were of particular note – The Magical Properties of Gemstones by Mage Tenser, The Magical Properties of Herbs and Flowers by Mage Tenser, The Metaphysics of Mathematics by Mage Nystul. And inside the later was a piece of paper, so damage by water, that only the words “…beyond the skeletons…”
Meanwhile, Tuvok entered the westernmost room, a living area of sorts. As he looked about, a sudden chill filled the room as a disebodied voice broke the silence "Welcome, fools — welcome to your deaths!” followed by a prolonged burst of insane and fiendish laughter. Though Tuvok and Patrin were unaffected by the voice and insane laughter, Ahmed, still in the library, felt the chill of the unholy in his soul. Tuvok and Patrin continued to inspect the room, but could find no reason behind it. Patrin did think, it could have been a spell of some sort, but he was uncertain of it.
The three moved on to the east part of the ground floor, finding a large amethyst hiding in a loose hollow brick inside the chimney on one of the other living areas in the west area, as well as a trove of redcaps around the same chimney.
They found nothing in the dinning room, but were confronted by a large spider in the withdrawing room. After defeating it, they found a ring with a small sapphire mounted in the band as opposed to on a mounting.
Moving onto the kitchen, they are assaulted by a family of five giant centipedes, which the three manage to take out with little issue.
Beyond the kitchen, in the scullery, they are faced with another disembodied voice, one that seemed to come from the cellar where stairs led. This time it was just screams, screams of a soul seeming to be tortured. Patrin fell to the screams, unable to continue on.
Tuvok and Ahmed continued down into the cellar, finding many broken bottles of wine, metal bins, and a dead body. Before Tuvok touched the body, Ahmed noticed something and managed to stop him. Unfortunately, the produce fire did not kill all the rot grubs in the body, and when Tuvok kicked it, he was attacked by two of them, one managing to latch itself onto him. Quick thinking of Ahmed burned the critter before it could burrow deep into Tuvok’s flesh. They kill the remaining grub, and after searching the room, bring up the things that they found on the body, in particular a suit of magical plate mail.
The three then took the stairs in the foyer up to the 1st floor, heading into the east wing, and entering the first room. When inspecting the chimney, two large spiders that had made a home there came out and attacked them. Both Tuvok and Patrin suffered severe damage from the combat, and the three decided to withdraw to the foyer for a break.
Sanbalet has also grabbed anything of worth in his room.
